October 4th is International Walk to School Day (iWALK). We will celebrate iWALK day at Our Lady of Wisdom the morning of Wednesday, October 4th. That morning, parents and guardians are encouraged to walk their children to school. This is a great opportunity to teach your children how to safely walk to school while promoting healthy active living. On your walk say hello to Diane, our new adult crossing guard at the corner of Marcoux and St. Georges Street! We will have Mr. Phizz, mascot of the Ottawa Public Health to greet students as they arrive. In the case of inclement weather (i.e. heavy rain) we will reschedule this event for the morning of Wednesday, October 11th.

NEW ADULT SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD

We are very pleased to inform our school community that there will be a new adult school crossing guard located at St. Georges Street and Marcoux Drive North for the safety of our students and families who walk to and from school. We wish to thank all the members of our Active and Safe Routes to School committee, Councillor Bob Monette and the City of Ottawa for this new initiative.

The following news item should not be put on website until after tomorrow morning as it may make first day procedures confusing:

IMPORTANT- NEW ENTRY AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

We have a new morning routine for our students. All students will be supervised in the schoolyard from 8:15 to 8:30 am, rather than going straight inside to their classrooms. This will provide our students additional time outside socializing with their peers.

At the end of the day, students in grades 1-6 who walk home from school (either accompanied by an adult or alone) will be dismissed from the end of day dismissal area near the staff parking lot. For the safety of students, all students who are getting picked up at the end of the day may be picked up by a parent or guardian in this area. They will not be permitted to walk in the parking lot to meet a parent/guardian. Thank you in advance for your understanding. Full-day kindergarten students can be picked up by parents/guardians at the exterior kindergarten classroom door.
